The Samsung Galaxy S22 is one of the most balanced phones you can get, but they sell more powerful options. Samsung has a bunch of premium phones you can get your hands on, including the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra and S22+.

The Samsung S22 Plus is a significant upgrade over the base model, with a significantly increased screen size, bigger battery, and overall charging ability. The S22+ is a very technologically advanced Android phone, so here is a rundown of everything you can expect from the device.

What Are the Samsung S22+ Specs and Features?

The Samsung S22+ has a 6.6-inch Dynamic AMOLED display, making it 5 inches more significant than the base Samsung S22. It weighs 6.9 ounces, making it a full ounce heavier than the base model.

Additionally, it comes with a Gorilla Glass Victus screen and IP68 water resistance. It has various color options, including Phantom White, Phantom Black, Pink Gold, Green, Violet, Sky Blue, Cream, and Graphite.

The Dynamic AMOLED 2X display has a refresh rate between 48 and 120Hz, which means it caps out higher than the iPhone 13.

The S22+ uses the same processor as the base model: the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. The reason for this is that there isn’t much higher you can go, given that the 8 Gen 1 is already one of the most powerful processors out there.

It holds its own well against the Apple Bionic chips and the Google Tensor processors. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 comes with a variety of upgrades over earlier iterations when it comes to GPU and CPU power.

Right after activation, the S22+ comes with Android 12 with the option to upgrade. Samsung phones also utilize the One UI 4.1, which customizes Android specifically for Samsung, and the S22+ is compatible with One UI 5 and the new Android 13. With traditional Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and LTE connectivity, the phone does everything expected of modern smartphones, from mobile hotspot functionality and cutting-edge apps.

As far as the camera system goes, everything is identical to the S22. It has a triple camera system in the rear with a 50 MP main camera, a 12 MP ultrawide, and a 10 MP telephoto lens. The front camera lens is 40 MP.

The camera system is somewhat disappointing, given the inflated price point over the base model, since it already did not stand up to the Google and Apple camera systems. While it has low-light and night mode features, its rear camera and selfie cameras don’t live up to other top options with optical zoom, portrait mode, and more robust camera suites.

In terms of video, you can record 8k content at up to 24fps, which is very impressive for a phone camera.

The battery is 4,500 mAh, which is a significant upgrade over the 3,700 mAh of the base model. This translates to 1-2 hours of extra time between charges, and it also puts the S22+ in the upper echelon of smartphones when it comes to battery. You can use wireless charging and fast-charging chargers, keeping the Galaxy S22 Plus in line with top options for charging accessibility.

What Are Some Pros and Cons of the Samsung S22+?

The Samsung S22+ is a solid upgrade over the S22, with a larger and more vibrant display. The most significant upgrade over the base model is the battery life, which is significantly longer due to the larger battery. Very few phones out there have a larger battery than 4,500mAh, giving you plenty of time between charges. It also has a charging capacity of 45W instead of 25W, which is a plus over the S22.

The Samsung S22+’s biggest con is that it is one dollar short of a thousand dollars at market price, which is a vast number for the average person. Despite that price point, the processing power, camera system, and refresh rate are identical to the base model, which may cause people to turn to the cheaper option instead.

The camera system is weaker than the competition, making it difficult to recommend to anyone who cares about picture taking and video.

It also exists between the powerful S22 Ultra and the modestly priced S22. All of this combined will likely push you to either of the other two phones instead of the S22+.

What Is the Samsung S22+ Pricing?

The Samsung S22+ costs $999. This is $300 more expensive than the S22 and $200 cheaper than the S22 Ultra. It provides a nice buffer for people put off by the $500 gap between the other two models.

$999 is the price of a premium phone, and it is not financially competitive with phones like the Google Pixel 6 or the Apple 14, which is closer in price to the iPhone 14 Pro. While not as much as the 14 Pro Max, that’s still a high price point. With so much money on the line, the subpar camera and lack of upgrades from the base S22 make it tougher to recommend.

Bottom Line

The Samsung S22+ is a powerful Galaxy phone, but it exists in an awkward area between two phones with more to offer. The S22 has a more attractive price point and features similar to the S22+. The S22 Ultra is more expensive but also significantly larger and more powerful in categories like display and battery.
